NAB: "breaking up" with the other major Australian banks

On February 15, 2011, National Australia Bank launched its latest marketing campaign, "The Break Up," through which it intends to distance itself from the other major Australian banks. This supports its existing strategy of tempting customers to switch from other banks through price-leading offers; however, such a move has not yet proven to be effective in lifting the bank's cash earnings.

NAB: a change for the better

The financial community was impressed by the bank's plans to slim down its operations. Certainly, the bank could do with some focus after its decade-long acquisition spree - but there could be still more changes to come. NAB may plan to follow HSBC's example, relaunching all its regional operations under a single brand name.

NAB: earns healthy profit despite global credit conditions

Although banks around the world are reporting disappointing results, National Australia Bank appears to be weathering the storm. Indeed, NAB has announced an impressive 8% increase in half year profit. NAB: positioning for growth

NAB was once considered a likely candidate to lead further consolidation in the UK retail banking industry - but not any more. Trouble elsewhere in the group has rendered it unable to fulfill its original acquisitive ambitions. So can it grow its UK business organically? Past experience would suggest it faces an uphill task.

NAB: receives approval for US regional bank acquisition

NAB's move to acquire US regional bank, Greater Western, comes as the Australian bank looks to expand its agricultural business into the US market. However, there are short-term concerns over the profitability of Greater Western, with the US heading towards a recession and the current state of the banking industry amid the sub-prime mortgage crisis.
