In February, two major fuel retailers launched promotions in an attempt to generate loyalty and promote higher margin, non-fuel products and services. However, with a recent Verdict survey indicating that European motorists are more concerned about fuel prices and service station location and less about brand loyalty, retailers will find it difficult to make customers interested in such schemes.

Julius Baer has agreed to acquire Merrill Lynch's non-US wealth management operations from Bank of America. The deal is sizable, seeing Julius Baer boost AUM by around 40%, and could see it edge into the top 10 largest wealth managers globally. At the same time, it seems that the UK might miss its 2020 targets for renewable energy. Building wind farms in Ireland could boost the Irish economy, and the UK could import green power, but only if local communities do not object.
