Cingular: picking a good standard

Cingular needed to pick a single standard across its network. GSM seems to be the best way to go, both because it's cheaper to convert to, and because it allows Cingular to share networks with VoiceStream to get fully national coverage. It could also prove an advantage over the next few years, as international consolidation takes place in the industry.
