US department stores: Macy's struggling to keep up

US department store chains JC Penney and Kohl's have reported second-quarter sales growth of 3.6% and 8.8% respectively, leaving rival Macy's in the shade. Macy's, now the second largest department store retailer in the US, appears to have bitten off more than it can chew with the 2005 acquisition of May Department Stores.
