Although the use of anticonvulsants for migraines is restricted to third line treatments in migraine prophylaxis, the high prevalence of migraine means that it still an important additional outlet for the drugs. If the 12% usage rate that is seen in the US can be reproduced in countries such as Japan and Germany, which currently have usage rates closer to 2%, there is a great deal of potential for further expansion.
