The UK has one of the highest numbers of cars in Europe. The amount of cars on the roads will increase annually by an average growth rate of 2.7% between 2000 and 2005. The number of vehicles is forecast to rise from 24.8 million, to reach 32.5 million by 2005. This increase in growth measures comes despite of increasing measures by the government to decrease reliance on private cars.
