Manufacturers often launch new fragrances of familiar products as a way of tempting more consumers to purchase their goods. Various products reported by the Productscan Online database this month stand out for their novel fragrances, including a cotton blossom scented starch spray, a lemongrass fragranced detergent and a three-scented candle. Vicky McCrorie rounds up the latest product launches...
US-based Earth Friendly Products has come up with an innovative fragrance for its new All Natural Spray Starch. The spray, recommended for use when ironing, is said to be formulated with essential oils of cotton blossoms. Although consumers may not be familiar with the scent of cotton blossom, it could make the chore of ironing a little more pleasant.
Another product released by the same company is also scented with a novel fragrance. Earth Friendly Products' new Ecos line of Ultra Laundry Detergent is scented with lemongrass, which appears to be a new fragrance for the laundry detergent market. Like all Earth Friendly Products, the detergent is said to be better for the environment than traditional washing products, being formulated with plant-based ingredients that are touted as non-toxic. The company claims it works just as well as conventional detergents, being powerful enough to clean very dirty colored clothing, as well as safe enough for use on delicate baby clothes.
Staying with products that aid cleaning, Reynolds Consumer Products has launched a product in the US which could make cleaning up after cooking a little easier. Its Slow Cooker Liners are designed, as the name suggests, to line the inside of slow cookers, so that ingredients do not stick to the base of the container. The heat resistant liners are designed to be removed after cooking, when the cooker has cooled, and simply thrown away. Consumers could well choose to use these if it means not scrubbing burnt food off a pan.
Also made for kitchen use is the Bouchard Fridge & Freezer Spray. Made for UK distribution by IBA UK, the spray is said to be effective at cleaning the fridge, freezer and microwave without contaminating food. It also contains a defrosting agent, so that consumers needn't undergo the lengthy process of leaving the freezer off all night to defrost naturally.
Concentrating on carpeted areas of the home, Spot Shot Carpet Stain Remover Spray has been designed by maker WD-40 Co. to remove stains ranging from grease, pet stains and other stubborn marks off carpets. The company says the product, released in the US in a trigger spray, contains 'patented odor eliminators' and an anti-resoiling agent. This could therefore be useful for busy families with messy children and pets.
Moving from practical products to the more luxurious, S.C. Johnson & Son has launched a new Glade candle in the US which claims to have not one or two scents, but three. Glade 3 in 1 Blending Candle line with a Sweet Angel Blossoms has three layers, each containing a different scent which blend into each other when burnt. By designing a three in one product, the company appears to be exploiting the personal care trend of offering two or more functions in one product.
