Teradata selects Symantec NetBackup solution for data protection

Teradata, a provider of data warehousing and enterprise analytics solutions, has announced that Symantec NetBackup will be the primary backup, archive and recovery software technology to support the Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family.

Teradata said that providing a strong data protection solution is important because the role of the data warehouse has significantly shifted. It has evolved from a back-office, non-critical system queried by a few users to a system that supports thousands of frontline workers in their daily tasks.

Teradata said that for many customers, the data warehouse has become a mission critical system supporting high value applications. The data warehouse contains critical information for stocking shelves, booking flights, tracking customer habits, billing for services, quarterly financial reporting, and numerous other uses.

Scott Gnau, chief development officer of Teradata, said: "Teradata selected Symantec to provide industry-leading technology with enhanced performance and new capabilities, which will help our customers secure and manage their data more effectively than ever before.

"Symantec has the most advanced data protection solutions as a result of its solid commitment to R&D, which has already begun to pay dividends to our customers. Effective backup, archive and recovery (BAR) solutions are a critical component of the fully integrated and scalable Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family."
