The group operates in over 85 countries and has a strong position in Asia and a significant presence in the US. In addition to retail banking, BNP specializes in corporate and investment banking, international private banking, and asset management. The group is headquartered in Paris, France and employs 173,188 people.

The group recorded revenues of E27,736 million ($39,099.4 million) in the financial year ended December 2008, a decrease of 10.6% over 2007. The operating profit of the group was E3,224 million ($4,544.9 million) in the financial year 2008, a decrease of 69.4% over 2007. The net profit was E3,021 million ($4,258.7 million) in the financial year 2008, a decrease of 61.4% over 2007.
